Alternative Rules
Everyone wants to play by their own rules, right? Viewpoint can be played in a multitude of ways. You can use the basic rules included with the game, you can make up your own rules on the fly or you can use one or more of the optional rules listed below.
- Increase the amount of View-points required to win from 100 to, say, 200. This rule is good for 2-player games or games where more than one Viewpoint deck is being used.
- Instead of playing individual games, play multiple rounds and tally each player’s View-points at the end of each round. The winner is the player with the highest total at the end of those rounds.
- When the Draw Pile runs out of cards, shuffle the Discard Pile and turn it face down so it becomes the new Draw Pile.
- Change the CANCEL action so that it only cancels the action for the player that is playing the cancelling card. If multiple players are affected by the action then they must each play a cancelling card to protect themselves. The cancelled card is put into the Discard Pile even if only one player cancels it.
- For a more cutthroat game, limit hand sizes to no more than 5 cards (counted at the end of your turn). If you have more than 5 cards in your hand at the end of your turn, you must discard down to 5 cards.
- 3-on-3 Team Match - Download the rules for the Viewpoint 3v3 format or read about the rules for the Viewpoint State of Origin for details on how to play 3-on-3 team representative matches.
- Brew Decks - Tailor your own 70-card constructed Viewpoint Brew Deck to crush your opponents and prove you have the best deck-building abilities.
- Viewpoint Solitaire - Try to reach 100 or more points in the least amount of turns (not counting bonus turns). Setup as normal by dealing 5 cards to yourself and 5 cards to a face-up dummy hand. The face-up dummy hand starts first. You draw and play cards as normal during your turn and you get to select what happens to the face-up dummy hand. i.e. You get to select which cards are discarded, revealed, etc. Draw one face-up card for the dummy hand for each of its turns. The dummy hand does not get to play cards. The record so far is 100+ points in 4 turns.
- Set Your Sights Low - Played using a pick-and-pass "draft" format with any combination of Viewpoint decks. Players draft 10 cards each. After the cards are drafted, players play a game using only the cards in their hands. No deck is used so players can't draw extra cards. The objective of the game is to be the player with the lowest score once all cards have been played.
